One Heart
One Heart
Words wander by me all day long
I try to grab one or two of them as they go by
And stuff them into songs that say
I love you but no matter how hard I try
Nothing quite seems to capture the depth
Of the changes that have been worked in me.
As we have grown together over time - our jeans rolled up
Knee deep in placid pools; Neck deep in the roiling sea,
The churning waves roll in sometimes, pressing hard against us
Then roll out as if intent on pulling us apart.
But I still prefer to live with you among tide pools and waves and rocks,
Of life, where we've learned to our delight that two in love
May come to share one single beating heart.
