April 6 - Reflex

Reflex
The inimitable Rolleiflex

Like photographers we look at the world
Through prisms, not straight at it.
Down through the top or out through a peephole
At tiny screens fed light from tiny sensors.
We do not see the world directly,
But filtered, bent and translated.
Whether by lenses focusing light,
Prisms bending it or pixelated bits and bytes
Making images on light emitting diodes,
We are limited by the paradigm
Through which we look out upon the world
Our challenge then is to take into account,
The medium through which we take it all in
And find some kind of truth in the pictures
That we make. Though oft to make them true,
We find we must unbend the light again.
